Palmetto Bluff Daufuskie Island History Tour

Catch a glimpse into a fascinating chapter of Lowcountry history

Tucked between Hilton Head Island and the mainland – accessible only by boat – the island on ‘the other side of the river’ is a real gem – a trip back in time – providing a glimpse into a fascinating chapter of lowcountry history. Join us for a small-group tour, usually limited to 6 people of the ‘undeveloped side’ of Daufuskie with our interpretive guide and USCG Licensed Captain.

Visit several one-of-a-kind places… the First Union African Baptist Church, the Praise house, the Mary Field’s School where author Pat Conroy taught, the site of the Bloody Point Lighthouse, an artisans studio…perhaps a chance to meet some native ‘Fuskie islanders. Hear about the rich history of the Native Americans, European settlers, cotton and slaves…as well as the Gullah who remain and locals who have chosen to make this remote island their home.
